From the jet age onward

A motor lodge that found its swing

In the early sixties, Stay Guest Hub began as an unassuming motor lodge offering a pool, coffee shop and card table tucked into the back room. A showroom, cocktail lounge and casino floor arrived within a few years, creating the sort of Saturday-night destination worth dressing up for. Its folded roofline, glass-walled lobby and breeze-block screens remain among the finest examples of their kind.

During restoration, we preserved all that gave it character, replacing only what needed replacing. Terrazzo floors regained their polish, the rooftop neon star was rewired one tube at a time, and the Orbit Room starburst ceiling was hand-regilded. Modern plumbing, fast wifi and quiet air conditioning work behind the scenes, leaving style as the only vintage element.

The outcome is a hotel devoted to having fun. Arrive for a swim and club sandwich, catch a Satellite Room show, then end the night beneath the stars with a hand of blackjack.

For more than sixty years, the hotel’s focal point has been the Orbit Room, our casino floor: a sunken space with teal carpeting, walnut paneling and a gold starburst overhead. The room holds thirty-six tables, including a ten-table poker room beyond glass doors, while classic reel machines line the rear wall.

Patience and good humour are hallmarks of our dealers. New to a game? Choose a learner table, where lower limits and a gentler pace make it easy to settle in. The Orbit Room admits adults only, and photo ID is required at entry.

Live tunes, every night of the week

Our showroom accommodates two hundred guests at small circular tables, with a sprung dance floor before the stage and a bar at the rear. Performances begin at 21:00, hotel guests enter free, and the house band can play nearly any request you might offer.

Spend the day by the kidney-shaped pool

By day, the hotel gathers around its heated pool, surrounded by striped cabanas, loungers and a pool bar serving frozen drinks from 11:00. Until 14:00, families enjoy the water exclusively, after which it is reserved for adults.

Inside, the Cabana Spa provides facials, massages and a eucalyptus steam room. Downstairs, the eight-lane bowling alley is open noon until midnight, offering shoes in every size plus a jukebox full of singles.
